Yerman Aponte

Being born in Caracas, Venezuela, influenced his passion for music. Venezuela being part of the Caribbean way of life, lots of different styles of music do sound. At the age of 6 I started to perform with my “ cuatro”, a folk Venezuelan instrument. I performed in practically every school play.

Reaching my 14th birthday my parents gave me my first bass. My father was the person teaching how to play, since he was a guitar player himself, he could tell me the inns en outs and the similarities between the 2 instruments.
My first couple of years I was autodidact until I reached a point that I wanted more. I knew that if I really wanted this to be my profession and have a career I had to receive classes about all the technical possibilities of the instrument and it’s theory.
At the age of 18 I started a 3 year study at the Conservatory Jose Angel Lama, one of the most important of the country. I studied double bass and classic music. During this period I performed with the orchestra Jose Angel Lama.
When I reached the age of 21 my interest started for Jazz music. That’s when I started at the academy The Blue Note, in Caracas. I have had the pleasure and honor to get introduced to all the great jazz musicians of Venezuela and not
only being introduced but also educated with all their Jazz knowledge & passion.

I even started to perform with all of them on a weekly basis in the best Jazz Club of Venezuela, EL Juan Sebastian Jazz. I have been doing this for 4 years.

I have performed on all the great Jazz festivals of the Venezuela, North America & Europe.
For the last 12 years I’m living in the Netherlands & have the pleasure to perform with great artists here as well. I’m also the European representative of Utrera Custom bass.
